Rehabilitation
Rehabilitation of the disabled is the most important one. Recognizing this aspect the institution is paying more attention to this process through physiotherapy, surgical corrections, orthotics and prosthetics, counseling, pre and post operative care. The rehabilitation team of the institution has taken up the survey of many villages of Andhra Pradesh for this purpose.
- Home Based Rehabilitation:
There are some families where every elder of the family has to go for work to feed the family. And it becomes difficult to take care of the physically handicapped child. So the child is left at home. No care is taken, no attention paid for its rehabilitation. In such cases, the child is neglected for a long period and when the family realizes the need for rehabilitation, it becomes too late. Hence there is a need for Home Based Rehabilitation.
Realizing this, Vegesna Foundation is sending its batch of rehabilitation team (physiotherapist, special educator, health worker) to the villages, to the houses of the physically handicapped children. The team educates the family members (mother, father, grand parents, siblings) about the need of rehabilitation and trains / teaches them some techniques of rehabilitation to be followed at home. The regular trips of the team encourages the family to take care of the child.
- Community Based Rehabilitation:
The child, whether physically handicapped or normal is a part and parcel of the society in which it lives. After the child grows into an adult, it has to live in the society. Hence inspite of the rehabilitation procedure, it is important that the society also accept the child as an adult. Otherwise, the child would feel like an outcaste and may develop anti social traits. Hence it becomes necessary for the rehabilitation team to involve the society. So the team coordinates its activities with the local leaders and authorities by involving them, the rehabilitation team makes it their responsibility to help the physically handicapped and thus accept them as part of the society.

From the year 1993 , the Foundation has completed 200 surgical corrections and has given new life to totally crippled and OH students of the institution.
