Orthotic and Prosthetic Project

For the rehabilitation of the orthopaedically handicapped child, the usage of Orthosis or Prosthosis plays an essential part.

The rehabilitation includes mainly two parts. One is Physiotherapy and the second is usage of the Orthosis/Prosthesis. During physiotherapy the weakened muscles/tendons are trained to gain strength or the supporting muscles/tendons are trained to do the work of the weakened/dead muscles/tendons.

During this process, the Orthosis/Prosthesis support the limb muscle and helps in rehabilitation process. There are various types of orthoses/Prostheses depending upon the disability and its extent without which the rehabilitation process slows down.

A few of the different types of calipers (braces):
  1. AKFO – Above Knee Foot Orthosis

  2. BKFO – Below Knee Foot Orthosis

  3. KFO – Knee Foot Orthosis

  4. AKFO with PB – Above Knee Foot Orthosis with Pelvic Band

  5. Surgical Shoe – will be attached to any of the above. The difference between this shoe and the regular shoe is that this shoe is designed as per the requirement of the patient. There, usually, will be differences in height, size of the pair of surgical shoes worn on two feet of the same person.
Continuous usage of correct/proper Orthoses/Prostheses is also important. Hence, for proper and complete rehabilitation of the orthopaedically handicapped child, for any Rehabilitation Project, it is important to have a well equipped Orthotic & Prosthetic Centre.

Thus Vegesna Foundation has a well equipped Orthotic & Prosthetic Centre catering the needs of the beneficiaries of the institution. Repairs, replacement of caliper (brace) and its part is taken up on daily basis in the Centre.
